How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
In use
The short version
The Razer Blade 17 RTX 3080 Ti is a difficult laptop to recommend at £4,500, not because its measured gaming performance is poor, but because the price asks buyers to overlook a fundamental mismatch between the specification, the GPU power limit and the competition.
Notebookcheck’s benchmark data shows a machine that is plainly fast. At 1920x1080 on the High preset with upscaling disabled, it reaches 250fps in The Witcher 3, 242fps in Strange Brigade, 176fps in GTA V, 165fps in Dota 2, 134fps in Far Cry 5, 121fps in Final Fantasy XV, 111fps in X-Plane 11 and 106fps in Cyberpunk 2077 1.6. The mean across the five scoring-suite games is 163fps. Those are strong figures in isolation, and there is no case for calling this a slow gaming laptop.
The problem is that this is not an inexpensive performance-focused laptop. It is a 17.3in machine with an RTX 3080 Ti, a Core i7-12800H, 32GB of memory, a 2560x1440 240Hz IPS panel and an 82Wh battery, yet the RTX 3080 Ti is configured at 100W. That power limit matters. An RTX 3080 Ti badge does not establish the level of gaming performance by itself, because laptops carrying the same GPU can be configured very differently. In this case, the benchmark comparisons show that the Blade 17 does not establish a meaningful advantage over some lower-tier GPU configurations, while a higher-power RTX 3080 Ti rival is faster in the shared games.
The screen is one of the better reasons to consider the Blade. A 17.3in 2560x1440 panel with a 240Hz refresh rate is a premium gaming specification. The issue is not that the panel is excessive; it is that the measured data suggests the laptop will use that refresh rate selectively rather than consistently in demanding games. The easiest titles in the benchmark list can run near or beyond the panel’s ceiling at 1080p High, but several more demanding games sit much further below 240fps. At the Blade’s native 2560x1440 resolution, which has more pixels than the measured 1920x1080 setting, there is no published frame-rate figure here to claim that the machine will maintain the same results.
At 2.729kg, the Blade 17 is portable in the sense that it can be moved between locations, but it is not a light gaming laptop. It belongs in the category of machines bought by people who want a desktop-style screen size and a substantial gaming specification without committing to a fixed desktop. It is much less compelling for someone who expects to carry it every day, particularly when the value proposition is already weak.
Buy it only if the specific combination of a 17.3in 2560x1440 240Hz IPS display, 32GB of memory, Core i7-12800H and Razer’s 17in format is more important to you than outright value. The gaming results are good enough to support serious play, but the £4,500 asking price is not supported by a clear performance lead over the listed alternatives. For buyers choosing principally on gaming frame rates per pound, this is poor value at this price, and the shared-game comparisons make that clear.
Performance
A fast laptop, but not a straightforward RTX 3080 Ti result
The Blade 17’s performance has to be read in context. The machine uses an RTX 3080 Ti, but it does so at a 100W GPU power limit. That is the crucial specification for interpreting the frame-rate data. The GPU name tells you which family of hardware is installed; the power limit helps explain how much room that GPU has to deliver its potential inside a particular laptop design.

That does not mean the Blade 17 is underperforming in every title, nor does it mean every watt translates directly into a fixed frame-rate gain. The benchmark set contains lighter and heavier games, and performance can be constrained by the CPU or by the game engine rather than solely by the GPU. But it does mean the 100W configuration is not merely a technical footnote. It is a central part of the buying decision, because the Blade’s price places it in a bracket where buyers should expect a clear return in gaming performance.
The measured figures come from Notebookcheck and use 1920x1080, the High preset and upscaling disabled. That is a useful, clean comparison setting because it removes the complications of differing upscaling modes. It is not, however, the Blade’s native screen resolution. The installed panel is 2560x1440, so these results establish the laptop’s performance at a lower resolution than the display’s native setting. They show what the hardware can do under the published benchmark conditions; they do not prove the same frame rates at 2560x1440.
The benchmark spread
The results span from 106fps in Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 to 250fps in The Witcher 3. That 144fps spread is not a contradiction. It is exactly why buyers should avoid treating one game result, one GPU name or one average as the whole story.
The Witcher 3 reaches 250fps, exceeding the 240Hz refresh rate of the installed panel under the published 1080p High test conditions. Strange Brigade is almost there at 242fps. These are the results that make the screen’s high refresh rate look immediately useful. In games with a similar demand profile, the Blade 17 can produce frame rates that match or exceed the panel’s refresh ceiling at the benchmark setting.
That is not the same as saying the laptop drives every game at 240fps. It does not. GTA V produces 176fps, which remains very high and should make good use of a fast display, but it is below the panel’s maximum refresh rate. Dota 2 reaches 165fps. Again, that is a high result, but it does not fill every refresh opportunity of a 240Hz panel. The five-game scoring-suite mean is 163fps, which is a strong average but also a useful reality check: the central result across that group is much closer to the mid-100s than to 240fps.
The remaining figures show why the distinction matters. Far Cry 5 reaches 134fps. Final Fantasy XV comes in at 121fps. X-Plane 11 records 111fps. Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 is at 106fps. These are not bad outcomes. They indicate that the laptop is capable of running a broad spread of games smoothly at the published 1080p High setting without upscaling. But they also show that a 240Hz display is not a promise of 240fps in demanding games. It is a display capability which the laptop can exploit fully in some titles and only partly in others.
The ordering of the games also matters more than a single average. A buyer primarily interested in competitive or less demanding games may look at the 250fps and 242fps results and see a strong fit. A buyer interested in more demanding games should pay closer attention to the 121fps, 111fps and 106fps outcomes, because these better show where the laptop lands when the game load is less forgiving. The Blade’s benchmark data supports both conclusions: it can be very fast, but it is not universally a 240fps machine.
What 100W means in practical terms
The 100W GPU limit changes the way the RTX 3080 Ti should be viewed. It is not sensible to approach this laptop as though every RTX 3080 Ti system must deliver the same gaming experience. The named GPU is only one part of the configuration. The published rival data demonstrates this directly.
The MSI Raider GE77 HX uses an RTX 3080 Ti at 175W and is faster by 6fps across five shared games. The difference is not enormous, and it should not be exaggerated into a claim that the Raider is in another class. But it is still important because the Blade 17 is the expensive machine here. At £4,500, the Blade needs more than a small gap to lower-powered or lower-tier configurations; it needs a performance case that makes the premium feel justified. The shared-game data does not establish that case.
The comparison with the MSI Vector GP66 is more revealing. The Vector uses an RTX 3070 Ti at 150W, yet the Blade 17 and Vector average effectively the same result across five shared games. This does not prove that the two laptops will tie in every game, every resolution or every graphics setting. It does prove that, within the shared test set, the Blade’s RTX 3080 Ti badge does not translate into an average advantage. That is a serious issue for a buyer paying at the top end of the market.
There are good technical reasons why shared 1080p results can converge. At this resolution, particularly in lighter games, the CPU and the game engine can limit performance before the GPU reaches its full potential. The fact sheet specifically notes that lighter titles in the shared set can become CPU-bound at 1080p, compressing genuine GPU gaps. That matters when interpreting the near-zero comparisons with the Vector and XMG Pro. A tie is still a real benchmark result, but it should not be mistaken for proof that every GPU configuration is equivalent under all conditions.
For the buyer, the practical conclusion is simple. The Blade 17’s 100W RTX 3080 Ti is fast enough to deliver high frame rates, but it is not a reason to assume this laptop will automatically dominate machines with a lower-numbered GPU. Its performance needs to be judged from the measured game results, not from the branding hierarchy. Game-by-game reading of the figures
The Witcher 3: 250fps. This is the Blade’s highest published result. At the measured 1920x1080 High setting without upscaling, it is above the screen’s 240Hz refresh rate. This is the clearest example of the Blade being able to make full use of its fast panel. It also demonstrates that the Core i7-12800H, 32GB of memory and RTX 3080 Ti combination has no shortage of performance in lighter or better-scaling scenarios under the published settings.
Strange Brigade: 242fps. This is similarly close to the panel maximum and sits just above 240fps. For buyers whose regular games resemble the demand level of this test, the 240Hz display is more than a decorative specification. The system has the measured output to support it at 1080p High. It is important, however, not to extend this result to the whole library. The following titles show a much wider range.
GTA V: 176fps. This remains a very strong result, but it makes the distinction between “high refresh capable” and “always refresh-limited” clear. The Blade can output a substantial number of frames here, yet the display’s 240Hz ceiling is not reached in the published test. A 176fps result is still comfortably within the territory where a 240Hz panel can offer responsive presentation, but it is not the same thing as a full 240fps output.
Dota 2: 165fps. This is another result that should be described as fast without pretending it is a panel-saturating outcome. It is also one of the scoring-suite figures and contributes to the 163fps mean across that group. The result reinforces the broader pattern: the Blade 17 is often well into high-refresh territory, but it does not simply run all the benchmarked games at the panel’s maximum refresh rate.
Far Cry 5: 134fps. The drop from the highest results is notable, but 134fps still gives the Blade plenty of performance at 1080p High without upscaling. The key point is that the 240Hz panel has much more headroom than this game result uses. Buyers choosing this laptop because they want consistently extreme frame rates should notice that the panel specification is ahead of the measured output in a number of games.
Final Fantasy XV: 121fps. This is one of the more grounded indicators of what to expect when the game load rises. It is above 100fps, which is a substantial result, but it is far from 240fps. There is nothing in the fact sheet that supports claiming the same frame rate at the native 2560x1440 resolution, and it would be wrong to make that leap. Buyers who play simulation-focused titles should avoid basing their expectations on the 250fps result in The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 1.6: 106fps. This is the lowest published figure in the list and arguably the most useful counterweight to the laptop’s headline specifications. The Blade is still above 100fps at 1920x1080 High with upscaling disabled, which is a strong result. But it is also less than half of 240fps. That gap tells the story of this machine well: the display is capable of exceptional refresh, while the gaming hardware delivers a wide range of outputs depending on the title.
The mean is useful, but not enough on its own
The 163fps mean across the five scoring-suite games is a good summary of the Blade 17’s general gaming pace under the published conditions. It establishes that this is a high-frame-rate laptop at 1080p High without upscaling. It is not a result that should be dismissed because the machine is expensive or because the GPU power limit is lower than some rivals.
But the mean should not be used as shorthand for every game. It sits below the 240Hz panel refresh rate, and the individual results range substantially around it. A buyer who mostly plays games that behave like Strange Brigade will see a different experience from one who spends most of their time in games that behave more like Cyberpunk 2077 1.6, X-Plane 11 or Final Fantasy XV. There is also a resolution issue. The 163fps mean is measured at 1920x1080, whereas the screen is 2560x1440. The fact sheet does not provide a 2560x1440 benchmark mean, so there is no basis for claiming that 163fps carries over to native resolution. Buyers who intend to use the display at its native setting should treat the 1080p figures as a performance reference, not as a promise of native-resolution output.
The screen
A premium display specification
The Blade 17 has a 17.3in IPS display with a 2560x1440 resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. On paper, that is a strong fit for a high-end gaming laptop. The 17.3in size provides a large gaming canvas, 2560x1440 is a step above the 1920x1080 benchmark resolution, and 240Hz gives the panel the capacity to present very high frame rates where the hardware and game allow them.
The IPS panel type is also part of the appeal. The fact sheet identifies the display as IPS, though it does not provide measured brightness, contrast, colour coverage, response time or calibration information. It would therefore be wrong to make claims about image quality beyond the panel technology, resolution and refresh rate. What can be said is that this is not a low-specification display attached to high-end components. Razer has paired the RTX 3080 Ti and Core i7-12800H with a screen specification that is clearly aimed at premium gaming use.
Can the GPU use 240Hz?
The honest answer is: in some measured games at 1080p High, yes; across the full benchmark list, no.
The Witcher 3 reaches 250fps, and Strange Brigade reaches 242fps. Both results are at or above the 240Hz refresh rate. In those games, at the published 1920x1080 High setting with upscaling disabled, the Blade 17 can supply enough frames to meet the display’s refresh ceiling.
Every other published result falls below 240fps. GTA V reaches 176fps, Dota 2 165fps, Far Cry 5 134fps, Final Fantasy XV 121fps, X-Plane 11 111fps and Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 106fps. That does not make the 240Hz panel wasteful. A fast panel can still be beneficial when the frame rate is below its maximum refresh rate. What the published numbers do show is that there will be games where chasing the full 240Hz capability is realistic at 1080p High, and games where the measured output is much nearer 100fps than 240fps.
The screen is better than the price argument
If the Blade 17 were judged only as a display platform, the specification would be persuasive. A 17.3in 2560x1440 240Hz IPS screen is a high-end proposition, and it is more appropriate for this class of hardware than a basic 1080p panel would be. A 17in machine that travels, rather than a travel-first laptop
The Razer Blade 17 weighs 2.729kg. That places it firmly in substantial gaming-laptop territory. It is not a machine that should be described as lightweight, and buyers should not approach it as though it offers the convenience of a smaller portable system simply because it is technically a laptop.
At the same time, 2.729kg is not the same as a fixed desktop setup. The Blade 17 can be moved between home, office, university accommodation or another regular location. It offers a 17.3in display, a Core i7-12800H, 32GB of memory and RTX 3080 Ti gaming hardware in a self-contained system. For a buyer whose alternative is a desktop plus a separate monitor, keyboard and other peripherals, that portability still has real value.

Who will tolerate the weight best
The weight is easiest to accept for a buyer who values the 17.3in display and intends to use the Blade 17 as their main machine in more than one location. In that role, the large 2560x1440 screen and 240Hz refresh rate can be more valuable than shaving mass from the laptop. The system is also more plausible for someone who wants to avoid maintaining a desktop and separate display while retaining serious gaming performance.
