How these numbers were produced

Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.

In use

The short version

The Razer Blade 17 Early is a powerful but difficult laptop to recommend at its listed UK price of £4,500. Notebookcheck’s measured figures show that its RTX 3080 Ti and Core i9-12900H combination can produce very high frame rates at 1920×1080 using High settings with upscaling disabled. In the lighter games in the data, it is comfortably above the screen’s 144Hz refresh rate. In more demanding titles, however, it falls below that refresh ceiling, sometimes by a meaningful margin.

That alone would not be a problem. A 17.3in IPS panel with a 3840×2160 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate is an ambitious specification, and a machine with an RTX 3080 Ti, 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD should be capable of serious gaming work. The issue is that the published 1080p results do not put this laptop in a class of its own against other machines from the same GPU generation. They are not native-resolution results for this laptop’s 3840×2160 panel, and they should not be read as proof of performance at 4K.

At the fast end, the machine has more than enough measured performance to exceed 144fps. Strange Brigade at 229fps is well above the panel refresh limit. F1 2021 at 219fps and The Witcher 3 at 218fps are similarly far beyond 144fps under the published test conditions. GTA V also clears the refresh ceiling at 166fps. These are the games in which the Razer’s high-end CPU and GPU combination looks like the specification buyers expect from an RTX 3080 Ti machine.

That does not mean every frame above 144fps becomes visible on a 144Hz panel.
