What it asks of a laptop
At 1,920 x 1,080 on the High preset with upscaling disabled, Deathloop is demanding enough to separate mainstream and higher-end gaming laptops clearly, but it is not so heavy that 60fps requires flagship hardware. Notebookcheck's measured figures span from 57fps on the 75W RTX 3050 Ti-equipped Schenker XMG Focus 15 to 133fps on the 175W RTX 3080 Ti MSI GE76 Raider: a 76fps gap across the eight laptops sampled.
The median result is 102fps, which is encouraging for buyers targeting a responsive 1080p experience. However, that median should not be mistaken for a guarantee from every gaming laptop. The data divides into three fairly distinct groups. The RTX 3050 Ti result sits below 60fps; the two RTX 3060 laptops land at 72fps and 82fps; and RTX 3070-class hardware and above reaches at least 98fps, with most examples breaking 100fps.
Power limits appear relevant within the measured sample. The 100W RTX 3060 Lenovo Legion S7 15ACH6 averaged 82fps, while the 95W RTX 3060 HP Victus 16-e0179ng managed 72fps. That is a 10fps difference between two laptops using the same GPU name, albeit with only two results available. Similarly, the two RTX 3070 Ti machines returned 112fps and 98fps. The lesson is not that a particular GPU label guarantees an exact result, but that the laptop implementation still matters.
For 60fps gaming at these settings, the measured results suggest Deathloop is manageable on properly specified RTX 3060 machines and above. Chasing sustained figures around or beyond 100fps is more demanding: the measured RTX 3070, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 4070 and RTX 3080 Ti laptops are the relevant group. No laptop in this data set reached 144fps, so the figures do not support expecting the High preset without upscaling to fully exploit a 144Hz display.
What runs it
60fps: RTX 3060 is the measured starting point
Seven of the eight tested laptops reached 60fps or better. The entry that missed was the Schenker XMG Focus 15 with a 75W RTX 3050 Ti, at 57fps. That is close to the threshold, but it is still below it, so this specific machine cannot be described as a clean 60fps result at 1080p High without upscaling.
The two RTX 3060 laptops both cleared 60fps. The 95W HP Victus 16-e0179ng recorded 72fps, while the 100W Lenovo Legion S7 15ACH6 reached 82fps. Based on these two machines, RTX 3060-level laptops are the measured route to 60fps-plus performance, though there is enough variation to check the individual laptop rather than relying on the GPU badge alone.
100fps: RTX 3070-class laptops have the evidence
Four of the eight laptops achieved at least 100fps. The Schenker XMG Apex 17 M21 with an RTX 3070 recorded 106fps, while the HP Omen 16-b1090ng with an RTX 3070 Ti reached 112fps. The MSI Stealth GS66, also fitted with an RTX 3070 Ti, fell just short at 98fps.
That pair of RTX 3070 Ti results is useful context. One machine is comfortably above 100fps and the other narrowly misses it, so RTX 3070 Ti should not be treated as an automatic 100fps guarantee from this sample. It is, however, clearly closer to that target than the RTX 3060 results of 72fps and 82fps.
At the upper end, the Asus ROG Strix G18 with a 165W RTX 4070 averaged 130fps, while the MSI GE76 Raider with a 175W RTX 3080 Ti achieved 133fps. These are the fastest measured results, but each GPU tier is represented by only one laptop, so the figures describe those specific machines rather than every RTX 4070 or RTX 3080 Ti laptop.
144fps: no measured laptop gets there
None of the eight laptops reached 144fps. The closest was the MSI GE76 Raider at 133fps, followed by the Asus ROG Strix G18 at 130fps. Buyers with 144Hz screens should therefore expect that the measured 1080p High, upscaling-off configuration does not deliver 144fps across this sample, including its fastest machines.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
The fact sheet provides a price for only one of the measured laptops: the MSI Stealth GS66 with RTX 3070 Ti, listed at £2,688. It recorded 98fps, making it a strong result for 1080p High, but the available pricing does not establish it as the cheapest option.
No prices are supplied for the Lenovo Legion S7 15ACH6, HP Victus 16-e0179ng or the other laptops, so it would be misleading to name a cheapest laptop overall. On performance alone, the two RTX 3060 machines are the lowest-tier measured options that clear 60fps: 82fps for the Lenovo and 72fps for the HP. Their actual value depends on their current UK pricing, which is not included in the figures.
What this means if you're buying
For a laptop intended to run Deathloop at 1080p High without upscaling, the measured evidence points to RTX 3060 as the practical floor for a 60fps target. The Lenovo Legion S7 15ACH6 and HP Victus 16-e0179ng both manage it, at 82fps and 72fps respectively. The measured RTX 3050 Ti laptop does not, recording 57fps.
If your priority is closer to 100fps, look at the specific RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 Ti laptop rather than assuming every model will pass that line. The measured results range from 98fps for the MSI Stealth GS66 to 112fps for the HP Omen 16-b1090ng. For the highest figures in this data set, the Asus ROG Strix G18 and MSI GE76 Raider deliver 130fps and 133fps, respectively, but neither reaches 144fps.
In short: 60fps is widely achievable among the measured laptops, 100fps needs stronger hardware and a suitable implementation, and 144fps is not demonstrated by any of the eight results at these settings.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
