Dead Space Remake (2023): what it takes to run it

What it asks of a laptop
Dead Space Remake was measured on seven gaming laptops at 1,920 × 1,080 using the High preset with upscaling disabled. This is a small sample, so the figures describe these specific machines rather than every laptop fitted with the same GPU. Even so, the spread is wide enough to show that this is not an especially forgiving game for lower-end dedicated graphics.
Notebookcheck's measured figures range from 20fps on the HP Envy 17-cr0079ng with an RTX 2050 to 142fps on the Aorus 17X AZF with an RTX 4090 running at 175 W. The median result is 85fps, while six of the seven tested laptops reached at least 60fps. That sounds encouraging, but the lone 20fps result matters: an older or entry-level RTX laptop can be far below a comfortable level at these settings.
The separation between GPU tiers is substantial. The two RTX 4090 systems averaged 136fps, the two RTX 4070 machines averaged 86fps, and the single RTX 4060 result was 71fps. The RTX 3070 Ti laptop reached 68fps, while the RTX 2050 system managed just 20fps. In practical terms, the game appears comfortable on the better-equipped gaming laptops in this sample, but there is a sharp drop-off at the lowest measured tier.
It is also worth noting that GPU name alone does not fully explain every result. The MSI Stealth 16 Studio, with an RTX 4070 rated at 105 W, recorded 87fps, while the Aorus 15X ASF with an RTX 4070 at 140 W recorded 85fps. Those are effectively the same outcome in these measurements. With only two RTX 4070 laptops represented, this is not evidence that power limits do not matter; it simply means these numbers do not support making a simple buying rule based on GPU wattage alone.
What runs it
For a 60fps target at 1080p High without upscaling, six of the seven measured laptops cleared the line:
- Aorus 17X AZF, RTX 4090 at 175 W: 142fps.
- MSI Titan GT77 HX, RTX 4090 at 150 W: 130fps.
- MSI Stealth 16 Studio, RTX 4070 at 105 W: 87fps.
- Aorus 15X ASF, RTX 4070 at 140 W: 85fps.
- Medion Erazer Defender P40, RTX 4060 at 140 W: 71fps.
- Razer Blade 15 OLED (Early 2022), RTX 3070 Ti at 110 W: 68fps.
That makes the measured RTX 4060 and RTX 3070 Ti examples the lowest-performing systems here that still exceeded 60fps. However, each tier has only one result apart from the RTX 4090 and RTX 4070 groups, so this should not be read as a guarantee for every RTX 4060 or RTX 3070 Ti laptop.
The HP Envy 17-cr0079ng is the clear exception. Its RTX 2050 delivered 20fps, well short of 60fps and less than a third of the RTX 4060 result. Based on this one measurement, an RTX 2050 laptop is not a suitable match for this particular 1080p High, no-upscaling test.
A 100fps target is much more selective. Only the two RTX 4090 laptops managed it: 142fps for the Aorus 17X AZF and 130fps for the MSI Titan GT77 HX. The RTX 4070 pair stopped at 87fps and 85fps, so neither reached 100fps in the measured run. The RTX 4060, RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 2050 entries were further away.
No laptop in the sample reached 144fps. The Aorus 17X AZF came closest at 142fps, just below the threshold, while the MSI Titan GT77 HX reached 130fps. Anyone treating 144fps as a firm target should therefore be cautious: even the fastest measured laptop did not quite get there under these conditions.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
The fact sheet does not include laptop prices, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest machine that handles Dead Space Remake or to compare value in GBP. It would be misleading to infer pricing from GPU tier alone, particularly when the figures cover different laptop models and power ratings.
What the performance data can say is that the least powerful measured laptop to clear 60fps was the Razer Blade 15 OLED (Early 2022) with an RTX 3070 Ti at 110 W, at 68fps. The Medion Erazer Defender P40 with an RTX 4060 at 140 W also cleared the target, at 71fps. Neither result establishes which model is cheaper, and neither can stand in for every laptop using the same GPU.
What this means if you're buying
If your aim is simply to play at 1,920 × 1,080 on High with upscaling off, the measured evidence suggests looking at laptops comparable to the tested RTX 4060, RTX 4070 or RTX 3070 Ti systems. All four of those machines delivered between 68fps and 87fps, giving them some room above 60fps in this specific benchmark.
If you want measured performance above 100fps, the available data points only to the two RTX 4090 laptops. Their 130fps and 142fps results are clearly ahead of the RTX 4070 pair, which averaged 86fps. They still do not establish a reliable 144fps result, because neither reached that mark.
Finally, do not assume that any laptop carrying an RTX badge will be enough. The 20fps RTX 2050 result is a reminder that the lower end of the dedicated-GPU market is in a very different performance class here. For this test configuration, the measured numbers favour a proper gaming laptop over an entry-level RTX model.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
