How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
In use
The short version
The Razer Blade Pro 17 2021 (QHD Touch) is a difficult laptop to recommend at its listed UK price of £4,500, even though its measured gaming performance is plainly strong. Notebookcheck’s figures show a machine capable of very high frame rates at 1920x1080 on the High preset with upscaling disabled: 223fps in Strange Brigade, 208fps in The Witcher 3, 164fps in GTA V, 139fps in Dota 2, 109fps in Final Fantasy XV and 92fps in X-Plane 11. Across the five-game scoring suite, the mean is 145fps.
Those are not weak results. They are the results of a well-equipped gaming laptop with an RTX 3080, a Core i7-10875H and 32GB of memory. The issue is that this particular RTX 3080 is configured at a 100W GPU power limit, while the machine is sold at an extremely premium price. The benchmark data makes it clear that the laptop can deliver smooth gaming in every measured title at 1080p High, but it does not make a convincing case for paying £4,500 when the panel itself is a 17.3in 3840x2160 120Hz IPS display.
There is a mismatch here between the screen’s native resolution, its 120Hz refresh rate and the benchmark conditions for which we have published figures. The measured results are at 1920x1080, not at 3840x2160. At 1080p, several games comfortably exceed 120fps, and one more sits close enough to that level to make the panel’s refresh rate relevant. But Final Fantasy XV and X-Plane 11 fall below 120fps even at the measured resolution and settings. It would therefore be wrong to assume that the laptop can simply run every modern game at the screen’s native 3840x2160 resolution while holding 120fps. The Blade Pro 17’s position is also complicated by the rival data. Against the MSI Prestige 15 with an RTX 3050 Ti at 105W, it is ahead by an average of 72fps across four shared games. They do not show it creating a meaningful performance gap over every other RTX 3080 machine, and the 100W power limit means buyers should be especially careful not to treat the RTX 3080 badge alone as a complete description of gaming performance.
This laptop suits a buyer who specifically wants a large 17.3in IPS display, 32GB of memory, 1TB of SSD storage, an RTX 3080 and a laptop weight of 2.958kg, and who is willing to pay heavily for that exact combination. It also suits someone whose main gaming is at 1920x1080 High settings, where the published data is strong and several games can make real use of a 120Hz display.
It is much less sensible for someone shopping primarily on performance per pound, someone who expects the RTX 3080 name to guarantee native 3840x2160 gaming at 120fps, or someone who needs a machine that is easy to carry regularly. The price is the decisive weakness. The gaming results are respectable; the value argument is not.
Performance
What the published figures actually tell us
Notebookcheck measured the Razer Blade Pro 17 2021 (QHD Touch) at 1920x1080 using the High preset with upscaling disabled. That last point is important. These are not figures inflated by a lower render resolution being reconstructed to look like a higher one. They are straightforward 1080p High-preset results, which gives a useful picture of the laptop’s performance in the selected games but does not substitute for testing at the panel’s native 3840x2160 resolution.
The fastest measured game is Strange Brigade at 223fps. That is comfortably above the screen’s 120Hz refresh rate. On the evidence available, this is a title in which the Blade Pro 17 has more than enough performance at 1080p High to keep the display supplied with frames. It does not mean every moment of every play session is guaranteed to remain above 120fps, because the fact sheet provides a measured average rather than a full frame-time analysis or minimum frame rate. But an average of 223fps is far beyond the panel’s refresh rate and leaves substantial headroom.
The Witcher 3 follows at 208fps. Again, that average is well above 120fps. For a player using the laptop at 1920x1080 and the stated High preset, this is another example of a game where the 120Hz panel is meaningful rather than decorative. The machine is not merely reaching conventional smooth-play territory; its measured average is high enough to support the sort of high-refresh experience that buyers expect from a premium gaming system.
