FIFA 21 (2020): what it takes to run it

What it asks of a laptop
At 1,920 x 1,080 using the High preset with upscaling off, FIFA 21 looks decidedly forgiving for the seven gaming laptops covered by Notebookcheck’s measured figures. Every machine exceeded 60fps, every machine exceeded 100fps, and every one also cleared 144fps. The slowest result was 163fps, while the fastest reached 249fps: a 86fps spread, but one that sits entirely well above the usual 60fps target.
The median result was 205fps. That is the most useful headline for a buyer looking at the machines represented here: the middle result in this sample was already comfortably beyond the refresh rate of a 144Hz display. FIFA 21 does not appear to require a top-end laptop GPU to produce high frame rates at these measured settings.
There is still separation between the laptops, but it is not a simple upward line by GPU name. The three RTX 3080 laptops averaged 225fps, which is the highest GPU-tier mean in the figures, but their individual results ranged from 198fps to 249fps. The Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR YC recorded 249fps, the MSI GS76 Stealth with its 95W RTX 3080 achieved 227fps, and the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 with an RTX 3080 measured 198fps.
That variation matters. In this sample, the RTX 3050 Ti-equipped Schenker XMG Focus 15 reached 205fps, ahead of both the measured RTX 3060 laptop at 194fps and one of the RTX 3080 machines at 198fps. This does not mean an RTX 3050 Ti is generally faster than an RTX 3060 or RTX 3080; each of those non-RTX-3080 GPU tiers is represented by only one laptop. It does show that the laptop implementation matters, and that FIFA 21’s measured performance is high enough for those differences not to decide whether the game is playable.
The lowest figure came from the HP Omen 15-en0375ng with an RTX 2060, at 163fps. Even that result was 19fps above 144fps and 63fps above 100fps. Based on these numbers, the challenge is less about reaching a smooth frame rate and more about whether a buyer wants additional headroom for a high-refresh display. The measured results suggest that even the slowest laptop here has plenty of it at 1080p High.
What runs it
All seven measured laptops run FIFA 21 at 1,920 x 1,080 on High, with upscaling disabled, at more than 60fps. More notably, all seven also exceed 100fps and 144fps. There is no GPU tier in this particular data set that falls short of those thresholds.
- RTX 2060: The HP Omen 15-en0375ng recorded 163fps. It cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps.
- RTX 3050 Ti: The Schenker XMG Focus 15, using an RTX 3050 Ti at 75W, recorded 205fps. It cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps.
- RTX 3060: The HP Victus 16-e0179ng, with an RTX 3060 at 95W, recorded 194fps. It cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps.
- RTX 3070: The Schenker XMG Neo 17 (Early 2021, RTX 3070, 5800H) recorded 214fps. It cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps.
- RTX 3080: The three measured RTX 3080 laptops averaged 225fps. Their results were 198fps for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15, 227fps for the MSI GS76 Stealth with its 95W RTX 3080, and 249fps for the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR YC. All three cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps.
The RTX 3080 results offer the largest sample within a single GPU tier, but it is still only three laptops. The RTX 3070, RTX 3060, RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 2060 results each come from one specific machine. Treat them as evidence of what those named laptops achieved, rather than a guarantee for every laptop carrying the same graphics-chip label.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
No laptop prices are included in the supplied fact sheet, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest option in GBP from these figures alone. It would be misleading to declare a winner without comparable pricing for the measured configurations.
On performance alone, the HP Omen 15-en0375ng is the lowest-scoring machine listed, yet it still delivered 163fps. The Schenker XMG Focus 15 followed at 205fps despite using an RTX 3050 Ti at 75W. Both are therefore clearly capable of handling FIFA 21 at the measured 1080p High settings, but the data does not establish which was cheaper to buy.
What this means if you’re buying
For FIFA 21 specifically, there is little evidence here that you need to pay for the highest GPU tier solely to achieve a high frame rate at 1080p High. The RTX 2060-powered HP Omen result of 163fps already exceeds 144fps, while the RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3060 examples recorded 205fps and 194fps respectively.
An RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 laptop delivered higher results in parts of this sample, with the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR YC’s 249fps being the peak. However, the advantage should be viewed as extra frame-rate headroom rather than a requirement for acceptable performance. The difference between 163fps and 249fps is substantial numerically, but both results are far beyond 60fps and above 144fps.
The practical buying conclusion is straightforward: if FIFA 21 is the workload in question, the measured figures support prioritising the overall laptop package rather than chasing an RTX 3080 purely for this game. A laptop comparable to the measured RTX 2060, RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3060 systems already produced very high frame rates. Just keep the limited tier samples in mind: Notebookcheck’s numbers show what these seven laptops did, not a universal ranking of every laptop GPU configuration.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
