The Crew Motorfest (2023): what it takes to run it

What it asks of a laptop
The available evidence is unusually narrow: Notebookcheck’s measured figures cover just four laptops, all tested at 1,920 × 1,080 on the High preset with upscaling off. That is enough to show what these four machines achieved, but not enough to make broad claims about every laptop carrying the same GPU.
On this sample, The Crew Motorfest produced exactly 60fps on all four systems. The fastest result was 60fps, the slowest was 60fps, and the median was also 60fps. That includes machines ranging from an RTX 4050 laptop GPU to an RTX 4090 laptop GPU.
That flat result is important, but it needs interpreting carefully. It does not show the usual separation between GPU tiers: Notebookcheck’s numbers place the RTX 4090, RTX 4070 and both RTX 4050 laptops at the same measured 60fps. The figures therefore do not support a conclusion that an RTX 4090 is no faster than an RTX 4050 in every situation, nor do they establish how the game would behave at higher resolutions, altered settings or on other laptop configurations.
What they do show is that, at the tested 1080p High configuration, the four measured laptops all reached a 60fps result. For a buyer targeting a conventional 60Hz display or a 60fps target, that is encouraging: the lowest GPU tier represented here, RTX 4050, managed the same measured figure as the higher-tier systems.
However, the data does not show high-refresh-rate headroom. None of the four laptops reached 100fps, and none reached 144fps. If your priority is making full use of a 120Hz, 144Hz or faster panel, these results should not be read as evidence that the High preset will do so. There are no measured figures here for lower presets or upscaling, so there is no basis for stating which changes would be required to pursue those frame-rate targets.
What runs it
For 60fps: all four measured laptops were at or above 60fps. The recorded result was 60fps in every case.
- RTX 4090: the Acer Predator Helios 18 returned 60fps. This is one measured laptop, so it is a result for that specific system rather than a wider RTX 4090 verdict.
- RTX 4070 at 140W: the HP Victus 16-r0077ng returned 60fps. Again, this represents one laptop only.
- RTX 4050 at 140W: the Schenker XMG Apex 15 (Late 23) returned 60fps.
- RTX 4050: the Dell G15 5530, i5-13450HX RTX returned 60fps.
The GPU-tier means are identical in this data set: 60fps for the single RTX 4090 laptop, 60fps for the single RTX 4070 laptop and 60fps across the two RTX 4050 laptops. With only one RTX 4090 system and one RTX 4070 system, and no variation in the reported frame rates, there is no measured basis for ranking these tiers by performance in this game at these settings.
For 100fps: none of the four measured laptops reached the threshold. That is 0 of 4 at or above 100fps.
For 144fps: none of the four measured laptops reached the threshold. That is also 0 of 4 at or above 144fps.
For the tested setting, then, the evidence supports a 60fps expectation on these four particular machines, but not a recommendation for high-refresh play. The RTX 4090 result is especially worth keeping in perspective: even that system is recorded at 60fps here, so paying for a much higher GPU tier does not produce a higher measured result in this small comparison.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
No laptop prices are included in the fact sheet, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest measured machine in GBP.
The lowest GPU tier represented among the laptops that achieved 60fps is RTX 4050. Two specific RTX 4050 laptops recorded 60fps:
- Schenker XMG Apex 15 (Late 23), with an RTX 4050 at 140W: 60fps.
- Dell G15 5530, i5-13450HX RTX, with an RTX 4050: 60fps.
Those are the most relevant measured systems for a value-focused buyer because they sit below the RTX 4070 and RTX 4090 entries in the supplied GPU-tier list while still matching their recorded 60fps result. But without prices, neither can honestly be called the cheaper purchase.
What this means if you’re buying
If your aim is 1,920 × 1,080 at the High preset without upscaling and a 60fps result is acceptable, the measured figures suggest that an RTX 4050 laptop can be sufficient. Both RTX 4050 systems in this small sample recorded 60fps, including the 140W RTX 4050 in the Schenker XMG Apex 15.
That does not mean every RTX 4050 laptop will necessarily reproduce the result. Laptop GPU configurations vary, and this data covers only two RTX 4050 machines. It is best treated as evidence that these two systems handled the tested workload, rather than a blanket guarantee for the entire GPU class.
An RTX 4070 or RTX 4090 laptop may still make sense for other workloads or games, but Notebookcheck’s numbers do not show an advantage for either tier in this particular 1080p High result. Buyers choosing specifically for The Crew Motorfest should therefore avoid assuming that a more expensive GPU will deliver a higher measured frame rate at this tested configuration.
For a 100Hz or 144Hz target, hold off on a purchase decision based on these results alone. The available measurements contain no laptop at 100fps or 144fps, and they provide no evidence for the effect of reducing quality settings or enabling upscaling. The safe conclusion is simple: these four laptops handle the tested setting at 60fps, while high-refresh performance remains unproven by the supplied data.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
