What it asks of a laptop
Notebookcheck's measured figures are unusually compressed here. Across five laptops, tested at 1,920 x 1,080 on the High preset with upscaling off, every machine returned exactly 60fps. The fastest result is 60fps, the slowest is 60fps and the median is 60fps.
That means Elden Ring does not separate these tested laptops by their measured average frame rate at this setting. The sample includes a wide range of graphics hardware: an RTX 3050 Ti running at 75W, two RTX 3070 Ti laptops, an RTX 4070 at 165W and an RTX 4090 at 150W. Yet the measured result is the same in every case.
For a laptop buyer, the practical takeaway is that 1080p High appears achievable on the specific machines represented here, including the lowest-tier GPU in the sample. The figures do not show the usual pattern in which a more powerful GPU produces a clearly higher average frame rate. Instead, the available results level out at 60fps.
That also changes how to interpret the game’s laptop demands. Based on these numbers, Elden Ring is not asking for an RTX 4070 or RTX 4090 laptop in order to reach the measured 60fps result at 1080p High. The HP Victus 16-e0145ng, equipped with an RTX 3050 Ti at 75W, reached the same figure. There is therefore no measured evidence here that spending substantially more on GPU performance improves the reported frame rate at these settings.
That should not be read as a universal claim about every laptop with these GPU names. Laptop graphics chips can be configured differently between machines, and Notebookcheck's figures cover five specific systems rather than every possible implementation. What the data does show clearly is that these five laptops all delivered 60fps under the stated test conditions.
What runs it
Every GPU tier in the supplied results clears 60fps, but the evidence for each tier varies in depth.
- RTX 3050 Ti: the HP Victus 16-e0145ng, using a 75W RTX 3050 Ti, measured 60fps. This is the lowest GPU tier represented in the figures and it still reached 60fps at 1,920 x 1,080, High, with upscaling off.
- RTX 3070 Ti: two laptops were measured: the HP Omen 16-b1090ng and the MSI Vector GP76, the latter with an RTX 3070 Ti at 150W. Both recorded 60fps. The tier mean is therefore 60fps across two laptops.
- RTX 4070: the Asus ROG Strix G18, with an RTX 4070 at 165W, measured 60fps. That is one laptop result, so it demonstrates what this particular high-power RTX 4070 machine did rather than establishing a broad rule for all RTX 4070 laptops.
- RTX 4090: the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 2023, with an RTX 4090 at 150W, also measured 60fps. Again, this is one measured laptop rather than a tier-wide verdict.
All five of the measured laptops are at or above 60fps: 5 of 5. None is measured above 100fps, and none is measured above 144fps. That is important for buyers considering a laptop with a 144Hz, 165Hz or faster display. In this dataset, higher-end hardware did not translate into measured 100fps or 144fps performance at the stated 1080p High configuration.
Accordingly, the measured figures support a 60fps expectation for these systems at the tested settings, not a high-refresh-rate expectation. An RTX 4090-equipped Scar 18 reaches the same 60fps figure as the RTX 3050 Ti Victus, while the two RTX 3070 Ti models and the RTX 4070 Strix G18 sit there too.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
The fact sheet does not provide prices for most of the tested laptops, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest measured machine honestly. The only listed price is for the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 2023 with an RTX 4090 at 150W, which is given as £4,000. It measured 60fps, but the results do not suggest that this level of laptop hardware is necessary to obtain the same measured frame rate at 1080p High.
The HP Victus 16-e0145ng is the lowest-specification GPU laptop in the sample, carrying an RTX 3050 Ti at 75W, and it also measured 60fps. No price is supplied for that model, however, so it cannot be labelled the cheapest option from this data alone. The same applies to the HP Omen 16-b1090ng, MSI Vector GP76 and Asus ROG Strix G18: all reached 60fps, but no prices are provided.
If price is the deciding factor, the useful conclusion is not that the £4,000 RTX 4090 model is the value choice. It is that the measured figures include a 75W RTX 3050 Ti laptop at 60fps, so a buyer should not assume that a flagship GPU is required for this particular 1080p High target.
What this means if you’re buying
For Elden Ring at 1,920 x 1,080 on High with upscaling off, the five measured laptops all reached 60fps. That makes 60fps the clear target supported by the data, from the HP Victus 16-e0145ng with RTX 3050 Ti through to the RTX 4090-equipped Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 2023.
Buyers choosing between these GPU tiers specifically for this game should be cautious about paying a large premium in expectation of a higher measured frame rate. Notebookcheck's numbers show no separation above 60fps between the tested RTX 3050 Ti, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 4070 and RTX 4090 laptops. The premium RTX 4090 machine may suit other workloads or games, but those are outside these figures.
The sensible buying position from this dataset is therefore straightforward: prioritise a laptop that can sustain the tested 1080p High setup, rather than choosing a more expensive GPU solely for Elden Ring performance. Among these measurements, even the least powerful listed GPU configuration reached the same 60fps result as the most powerful one.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
