What it asks of a laptop
A Plague Tale Requiem is moderately demanding at 1,920 x 1,080 on the High preset with upscaling disabled, based on Notebookcheck’s measured figures. The five laptops in this sample returned between 59fps and 73fps, with a median of 71fps. That is a relatively narrow 14fps spread, but it is also a small sample: these results cover only five specific laptop configurations, not every version of these GPUs.
The important point is that this is not a game where the measured laptops approach very high refresh-rate performance at these settings. Four of the five machines reached 60fps or better, but none reached 100fps and none reached 144fps. A 120Hz, 144Hz or faster laptop display can still be useful, but the available figures do not suggest that native-resolution High settings without upscaling will regularly exploit those refresh rates.
The GPU-tier results also need careful reading. On paper, the RTX 4060 result is the fastest in this set at 73fps, ahead of the RTX 3070 Ti average of 72fps and the RTX 4070 average of 62fps. That does not mean an RTX 4060 laptop is generally faster than every RTX 4070 laptop in this game. The RTX 4060 figure comes from one laptop only, while the RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 4070 results each cover two machines. Laptop GPU performance depends on the individual configuration, and the measured results show substantial variation within the same nominal GPU tier.
The clearest example is the RTX 4070 pair. The Asus ROG Strix G18, with an RTX 4070 rated at 165W, achieved 66fps, while the HP Omen 16-xf0376ng, with an RTX 4070 at 140W, managed 59fps. Both are close to the 60fps line, but only one cleared it in Notebookcheck’s measurements. For this game, the badge on the GPU matters less than the performance of the particular laptop being considered.
What runs it
For a 60fps target at 1080p High with upscaling off, the measured results are broadly encouraging, although not universally so. Four of the five laptops met or exceeded 60fps:
- Razer Blade 15 OLED (Early 2022), RTX 3070 Ti at 110W: 73fps.
- MSI Katana 17, RTX 4060: 73fps.
- Aorus 15 XE5, RTX 3070 Ti at 130W: 71fps.
- Asus ROG Strix G18, RTX 4070 at 165W: 66fps.
The remaining machine was just below that threshold: the HP Omen 16-xf0376ng with an RTX 4070 at 140W recorded 59fps. That is only 1fps short of the stated 60fps target in the supplied figures, but it is still below it. Buyers looking for a consistent 60fps result should therefore avoid assuming that every RTX 4070 configuration will provide the same outcome as the Strix G18.
The RTX 3070 Ti entries are the most consistent pair in the data. The 110W Razer Blade 15 OLED returned 73fps and the 130W Aorus 15 XE5 returned 71fps, producing a 72fps mean across the two laptops. Those specific machines provide the strongest evidence here for performance comfortably above 60fps, though there are still only two results.
The sole RTX 4060 result, the MSI Katana 17 at 73fps, matches the fastest score in the sample. It is an excellent result for that particular laptop, but one result is not enough to make a blanket RTX 4060 recommendation. Treat it as evidence that the Katana 17 can run the game well at these settings, rather than proof that all RTX 4060 laptops will do the same.
There is no measured route to 100fps in this data set. The fastest result is 73fps, so none of the five tested laptops reached 100fps at 1080p High with upscaling off. Equally, none reached 144fps. If your priority is filling a 144Hz display in this game, the supplied figures do not support buying any of these configurations specifically for that outcome at the tested settings.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
No laptop prices are included in the fact sheet, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest option or give a GBP price without inventing information. The measured figures can identify the lowest-performing and highest-performing machines in this group, but not the best-value purchase.
Among the named laptops that reached 60fps, the MSI Katana 17 delivered 73fps with an RTX 4060, matching the Razer Blade 15 OLED’s 73fps RTX 3070 Ti result. The Aorus 15 XE5 reached 71fps, while the Asus ROG Strix G18 reached 66fps. Price should therefore be checked against the exact configuration rather than assumed from the GPU name alone.
What this means if you’re buying
If 1080p High at around 60fps is your aim, the measured figures suggest that A Plague Tale Requiem is manageable on several gaming laptops in this performance bracket. The Razer Blade 15 OLED, MSI Katana 17, Aorus 15 XE5 and Asus ROG Strix G18 all cleared 60fps in Notebookcheck’s numbers, ranging from 66fps to 73fps.
However, this is not evidence that spending more automatically produces a higher frame rate. In this five-laptop sample, the RTX 4070 machines were slower than the RTX 4060 result and the two RTX 3070 Ti results. The RTX 4070 average was 62fps, compared with 72fps for the RTX 3070 Ti pair and 73fps for the single RTX 4060 laptop. That inversion is exactly why buyers should seek figures for the exact laptop model, rather than relying solely on the GPU tier.
For a buyer choosing between the listed machines, the practical dividing line is simple. The Razer, MSI, Aorus and Asus models demonstrated 60fps-plus performance at the tested settings. The HP Omen came very close at 59fps, but did not clear that mark in the measured run. None of the available results supports expecting 100fps or 144fps without changing something from the tested 1080p High, upscaling-off configuration.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
