What it asks of a laptop
The measured figures suggest that The Finals is not especially punishing for the four gaming laptops represented here at 1920x1080 on the High preset with upscaling off. Every machine in Notebookcheck's small sample exceeded 144fps, with results ranging from 156fps to 214fps. That is a 58fps spread between the fastest and slowest laptops, but the important point for a buyer is that the slowest recorded result was still well above common 60Hz, 100Hz and 144Hz display targets.
There are, however, only four laptops in this data set, with one result per GPU tier. That is too small a sample to treat these numbers as a universal ranking for every laptop carrying an RTX 4060, RTX 4070, RTX 4080 or RTX 4090. Laptop GPU performance can vary with the individual machine, its power limit and its cooling, and the figures here describe these specific laptops at this specific resolution and preset.
Within that limitation, the GPU-tier separation is relatively modest below the RTX 4090. The RTX 4060-equipped HP Victus 16 recorded 156fps, while the RTX 4070 HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng managed 168fps and the RTX 4080 HP Omen 16 reached 171fps. That puts the RTX 4060-to-RTX 4080 gap in this four-machine set at only 15fps. The RTX 4090 Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 G834JYR was the clear outlier at 214fps, 43fps ahead of the RTX 4080 result.
That pattern indicates that, at 1080p High without upscaling, this game does not demand an ultra-high-end GPU merely to achieve a high refresh-rate result. The measured RTX 4060 laptop already supplied 156fps. The extra performance from the RTX 4090 is substantial in absolute terms, but it is not required to clear 144fps in this limited comparison. For a laptop buyer, the figures make the difference between “playable” and “extremely fast” less relevant than the difference between buying for a 144Hz-class panel and buying for the highest possible frame-rate headroom.
What runs it
At the tested 1920x1080 High setting with upscaling disabled, all four measured laptops cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps. There is no tier in this particular sample that needs a compromise simply to reach those thresholds.
- RTX 4060: The HP Victus 16 (2024) achieved 156fps. It cleared 60fps by 96fps, 100fps by 56fps and 144fps by 12fps. Among these results, this is the lowest recorded frame rate, but it is still a 144fps-plus result.
- RTX 4070: The HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng achieved 168fps. It cleared 60fps, 100fps and 144fps, sitting 24fps above 144fps.
- RTX 4080: The HP Omen 16 (2024) achieved 171fps. That is also comfortably above all three targets and only 3fps ahead of the measured RTX 4070 machine.
- RTX 4090: The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 G834JYR (2024) achieved 214fps. It is the fastest result in the data, 45fps above the 169fps median and 58fps ahead of the HP Victus 16.
The median result across all four laptops is 169fps, almost identical to the measured RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 outcomes of 168fps and 171fps. On this evidence, those two specific machines delivered very similar performance at the tested settings. The RTX 4090 system provided the only result above 200fps, while the RTX 4060 system remained the only result below 160fps.
It is worth keeping the test conditions attached to every conclusion. These are High-preset figures at 1920x1080 with upscaling off. They should not be read as guarantees for other resolutions, other graphics settings, or laptops with the same GPU labels. Equally, the data contains no measured result for lower-tier graphics hardware, so it cannot show where performance would fall below 144fps, 100fps or 60fps.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
The figures do not identify the cheapest laptop that handles The Finals. Only one price is provided: the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 G834JYR (2024), fitted with an RTX 4090 running at 175W, is listed at £4,000. It is also the fastest measured laptop, at 214fps, but it should not be treated as the value choice from this data alone.
No prices are supplied for the HP Omen 16 (2024), HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng or HP Victus 16 (2024), so it is not possible to establish which was cheapest. What can be said is that the HP Victus 16 is the lowest-performing measured machine at 156fps, yet it still cleared 144fps at the stated test settings. If its retail price is materially lower than the others, it could be the more economical route to a high-refresh-rate result, but that pricing comparison cannot be made from the supplied figures.
Likewise, the £4,000 RTX 4090 Scar 18 is not necessary on the evidence here for 60fps, 100fps or 144fps play at 1080p High. Its purpose in this comparison is maximum recorded performance: 214fps, rather than access to a threshold that the other three measured laptops failed to reach.
What this means if you're buying
If your target is a 60Hz or 100Hz laptop display, every measured system has a large margin at 1080p High with upscaling off. The lowest result, 156fps from the RTX 4060 HP Victus 16, is already far beyond both targets. For a 144Hz screen, all four machines also qualify on the measured averages, though the RTX 4060 result has the smallest margin above that mark.
For buyers considering the machines represented here, the practical dividing line is not whether they can run the game acceptably: each one can, under the tested conditions. It is whether paying for extra speed is worthwhile. The RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 machines were closely matched at 168fps and 171fps, while the RTX 4090 Scar 18 moved to 214fps. That makes the Scar 18 the performance-led option in this sample, but its stated £4,000 price demands a substantial budget for frame-rate headroom rather than basic smoothness.
The most cautious conclusion is therefore straightforward: the four measured laptops all run The Finals very well at 1920x1080 High without upscaling. The available data is too limited to promise identical results from every similarly named GPU laptop, but it does show that these particular RTX 4060, RTX 4070, RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 systems all exceed 144fps.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
