What it asks of a laptop
God of War Ragnarök shows a wide performance spread in the available laptop data, but that data is limited: Notebookcheck's measured figures cover just three laptops. All results use 1,920 × 1,080, the High preset and upscaling switched off, so they provide a useful like-for-like snapshot rather than a complete picture of every mobile GPU.
Across those three machines, performance ranges from 32fps to 98fps. The median is 88fps, while two of the three laptops reach at least 60fps. None reaches 100fps, 144fps or beyond in these measurements. That makes it a game that can run smoothly on recent mid-range gaming hardware at this setting, but it is not especially forgiving of lower-powered entry-level graphics chips.
The separation between the measured GPUs is substantial. The MSI Katana A15 AI, with its RTX 4070 running at 105W, records 98fps. The Acer Nitro V 16, using an RTX 4060 at 85W, follows at 88fps. Those two results are relatively close: a difference of 10fps despite their different GPU tiers and power limits. The much larger drop comes with the RTX 2050 at 35W in the Acer Aspire 17, which records 32fps.
On this small sample, the main difficulty appears to be avoiding the lower end of the laptop GPU market rather than distinguishing sharply between the two newer RTX 40-series options represented here. The RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 machines both clear 60fps comfortably at 1080p High without upscaling. The RTX 2050 machine does not, sitting 28fps below that target.
It is important not to overstate those conclusions. There is only one laptop measured for each GPU tier, and laptop graphics performance depends on the particular machine and its configured GPU power. These are results for three specific laptops, not a guarantee that every RTX 4060, RTX 4070 or RTX 2050 laptop will produce the same frame rate.
What runs it
RTX 4070: 98fps on the measured MSI Katana A15 AI
The fastest measured laptop is the MSI Katana A15 AI, whose RTX 4070 operates at 105W. Notebookcheck's number is 98fps at 1080p High with upscaling off. That is well above 60fps and close to 100fps, but it does not cross the 100fps mark in this test. It also falls short of 144fps.
For a buyer focused on a high-refresh laptop screen, this result matters: even the quickest machine in the three-laptop sample does not demonstrate 100fps or 144fps performance at these settings. It is therefore a strong measured result for conventional 60Hz gaming, but the data does not support treating 144Hz as a realistic fully matched target here.
RTX 4060: 88fps on the measured Acer Nitro V 16
The Acer Nitro V 16, fitted with an RTX 4060 at 85W, produces 88fps. That is a clear 60fps result, with 28fps of headroom over the threshold. It is 10fps behind the measured RTX 4070 laptop, but it remains much nearer to the 98fps result than to the 32fps result from the RTX 2050 system.
At the tested settings, this specific RTX 4060 laptop is the measured option that combines a comfortable frame rate with a stated price. It does not reach 100fps, and neither does any laptop in the supplied figures. Buyers should therefore view it as a demonstrated 60fps-plus machine for this game at 1080p High, rather than one proven to sustain triple-digit performance.
RTX 2050: 32fps on the measured Acer Aspire 17
The Acer Aspire 17's RTX 2050 runs at 35W and records 32fps. This is below 60fps by 28fps and below the 88fps RTX 4060 result by 56fps. It is the only sub-60fps laptop in the sample.
That result does not mean every RTX 2050 laptop will perform identically, but it does show that this particular low-power RTX 2050 configuration is not a strong fit for the tested 1080p High, no-upscaling workload. Anyone considering this class of hardware should pay close attention to the exact laptop and its measured performance rather than assuming that the RTX branding alone is sufficient.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
The lowest-priced laptop in the supplied figures is the Acer Aspire 17 at £899, but its measured 32fps result does not reach 60fps at 1080p High with upscaling off. It is cheaper than the priced gaming alternative, but the numbers do not show it handling the tested setting at a 60fps level.
The least expensive measured laptop that does clear 60fps is the Acer Nitro V 16. At £1,249, its RTX 4060 at 85W records 88fps. That makes it the clearest value reference in this limited set if your baseline is 60fps at the stated settings.
The MSI Katana A15 AI is faster at 98fps, but no price is supplied for that configuration, so it cannot be compared directly on value. Its 10fps lead over the Nitro V 16 is measurable, though the available figures are too limited to make a broader price-to-performance judgement between RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 laptops.
What this means if you're buying
If you want evidence of at least 60fps at 1080p High without upscaling, the measured results point towards the Acer Nitro V 16's RTX 4060 configuration or the MSI Katana A15 AI's RTX 4070 configuration. Both clear that mark, at 88fps and 98fps respectively.
If your target is 100fps, none of the three measured laptops proves it at these settings. The RTX 4070 MSI comes closest at 98fps, while the RTX 4060 Acer reaches 88fps. For 144fps, there is no supporting result in this sample.
For lower-cost machines, the Acer Aspire 17 illustrates the risk of prioritising price over GPU performance: its £899 price is lower, but its measured result is 32fps. The practical buying divide in these figures is therefore clear. The two newer RTX 40-series gaming laptops deliver 60fps-plus performance in the tested scenario, while the low-power RTX 2050 laptop does not. With only three measurements available, use those as specific reference points and check the exact GPU power configuration of any laptop you are considering.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
