What it asks of a laptop

At 1,920 × 1,080 on the High preset with upscaling off, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 ran well on every one of the five measured laptops. Notebookcheck’s figures range from 114fps to 136fps, with a median of 129fps. All five systems cleared both 60fps and 100fps, although none reached 144fps in these results.

That makes this look relatively forgiving for the particular high-end laptop hardware represented here, rather than a game that pushes every tested machine close to 60fps at 1080p High. Even the slowest result, the MSI Creator 17 with an RTX 2080, produced 114fps. The gap between the fastest and slowest machines is 22fps, or roughly 16% of the fastest result, so there is meaningful variation between laptops but no collapse in performance on the lower result.

The GPU-tier averages are particularly worth treating carefully. The two RTX 2070 laptops averaged 130fps, while the three RTX 2080 laptops averaged 126fps. That does not mean an RTX 2070 is inherently faster than an RTX 2080 in this game. It means that, in this small set of systems, the individual laptop implementations mattered more than a simple GPU-name comparison suggests. Cooling, power limits and the wider configuration can all affect where a particular gaming laptop lands, but the measured figures alone cannot identify which factor caused the differences.

There are only five laptops in the data, all fitted with RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 graphics. These numbers are therefore useful evidence for those specific machines and broadly for this level of older high-end hardware, but they cannot establish how lower-tier GPUs, newer laptop generations or different presets will perform.

What runs it

Every measured laptop ran the game above 60fps at 1080p High with upscaling disabled. For a conventional 60Hz laptop display, all five results provide substantial performance headroom in this test configuration.

For a 100Hz or 120Hz panel, the results are encouraging but not identical. Four of the five laptops measured at 126fps or higher, while the MSI Creator 17 reached 114fps. That is still comfortably above 100fps, but it leaves less spare performance than the 129fps median might imply.

A 144Hz display is a different target. Zero of the five measured laptops reached 144fps using the stated 1080p High settings. The closest was the Asus Strix Scar 17 at 136fps, followed closely by the MSI GE66 Raider at 134fps. A laptop with one of these GPUs may still be perfectly usable with a 144Hz panel, but these figures do not support a claim that the game will hold 144fps at High without adjustments. The data contains no lower-preset or upscaling results, so it cannot show what changes would be needed to reach that target.

The cheapest laptop that handles it

The fact sheet provides no laptop prices, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest measured machine or compare value in pounds. It would be misleading to infer a cheapest option from GPU tier alone, especially because the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 results overlap.

What can be said is that the measured machines all handle the game very well at the tested settings:

Of those specific laptops, the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR XB is the lower-scoring RTX 2070 example but still delivered 126fps, while the MSI Creator 17 is the slowest overall RTX 2080 result at 114fps. Neither outcome supports buying by GPU label alone if the price difference between available machines is small.

What this means if you’re buying

If your target is 1080p High at 60fps, the measured results are straightforward: every laptop in this data set clears that mark by a wide margin. If 100fps is the goal, the answer is also positive for all five tested systems. In this sample, RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 laptops both delivered well beyond that threshold.

The more cautious buying decision concerns high-refresh displays. A 120Hz screen is a reasonable match for most of these measured results, although the 114fps result from the MSI Creator 17 shows that not every machine will stay above 120fps under the stated conditions. For a 144Hz screen, do not assume that an RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 laptop will fully saturate the panel at 1080p High: the best recorded result was 136fps.

Most importantly, do not read the 130fps RTX 2070 mean versus the 126fps RTX 2080 mean as a hierarchy. The fastest RTX 2080 machine led the group, but the RTX 2070 laptops also outperformed two of the three RTX 2080 systems. For this game, the measured figures suggest that the specific laptop matters at least as much as the small GPU-tier distinction visible here.

If choosing between these classes of machine, look for the actual performance data for the exact laptop rather than relying on the GPU name. Based on Notebookcheck’s five results, both RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 laptops can deliver a strong 1080p High experience in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019, while a locked 144fps target remains unproven at these settings.

How these numbers were produced

Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
