What it asks of a laptop
Ready or Not produced high frame rates in the limited Notebookcheck sample supplied: both measured laptops exceeded 100fps at 1920x1080 using the High preset with upscaling disabled. The recorded range is 122fps to 194fps, with a median of 158fps.
That is encouraging, but it is also a very small sample: there are figures for only two laptops. The results show what these particular HP Omen systems achieved, rather than establishing a reliable rule for every laptop carrying the same GPU name.
The spread is unusually important here because the nominal GPU order does not match the measured results. The HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng with an RTX 4070 reached 194fps, while the HP Omen 16 (2024) with a 145W RTX 4080 recorded 122fps. On these figures, the RTX 4070 machine was 72fps ahead, despite the RTX 4080 being the higher GPU tier.
That does not mean an RTX 4070 is inherently faster than an RTX 4080 in Ready or Not. With one result per GPU tier, the data cannot isolate why the two machines differ. Laptop performance is affected by the complete system and its configuration, and these two measured results demonstrate that the GPU badge alone is not enough to predict an exact frame rate.
Still, the practical conclusion from the available numbers is positive for 1080p High play without upscaling. Neither laptop was close to 60fps. Even the slower result, 122fps, leaves substantial room above that baseline. The game appears forgiving on these two machines at the tested settings, but there is not enough evidence here to make a confident claim about lower-end GPUs, other resolutions, or different presets.
What runs it
At the tested 1920x1080 High settings, with upscaling off, both measured GPU tiers cleared 60fps and 100fps. Only one of the two reached 144fps.
- RTX 4070: The single measured RTX 4070 laptop, the HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng, achieved 194fps. That clears 60fps, 100fps and 144fps in this result. It is the fastest recorded machine in this sample.
- RTX 4080 at 145W: The single measured RTX 4080 laptop, the HP Omen 16 (2024), achieved 122fps. That clears 60fps and 100fps, but falls short of 144fps by 22fps.
Across the complete sample, 2 of 2 laptops reached at least 60fps, and 2 of 2 reached at least 100fps. Just 1 of 2 reached 144fps. If your target is a consistent high-refresh result around 144fps, the figures do not support treating either GPU tier as a guarantee: one measured RTX 4070 system was well beyond that threshold, while the measured RTX 4080 system was not.
For a 60fps target, the available results are much more reassuring. The slower machine still delivered more than double that figure. For a 100fps target, both machines also passed, although the RTX 4080 result had a far smaller margin than the RTX 4070 result.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
No laptop prices are included in the fact sheet, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest measured machine or make a price-to-performance comparison in GBP.
The two specific laptops with measured figures are the HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng with RTX 4070, at 194fps, and the HP Omen 16 (2024) with a 145W RTX 4080, at 122fps. Both handle Ready or Not comfortably at the tested 1080p High configuration, but the supplied data contains no pricing information that would establish which is the better-value purchase.
It would also be unsafe to assume that another version of either laptop will perform identically. The figures apply to these named machines and the stated test conditions only.
What this means if you're buying
If Ready or Not is one of your main games and you plan to play at 1920x1080 on High with upscaling disabled, the two Notebookcheck results suggest that a well-configured gaming laptop can deliver substantially more than 60fps. Both measured systems also exceeded 100fps, making the tested setting suitable for buyers who want a notably higher frame-rate target than a basic 60Hz experience.
The stronger caution is around buying solely by GPU tier. In this sample, the RTX 4070-equipped HP Omen Transcend 16-u1095ng delivered 194fps, while the RTX 4080-equipped HP Omen 16 (2024) at 145W delivered 122fps. The result is not evidence that RTX 4070 laptops generally beat RTX 4080 laptops; it is evidence that model-specific benchmark results matter.
For a 144Hz display, the data is mixed. The RTX 4070 Omen Transcend result has a 50fps margin over 144fps, while the RTX 4080 Omen result does not reach it. Buyers prioritising 144fps should therefore look for measured results for the exact laptop they are considering rather than assume that a higher-tier GPU will automatically deliver the desired outcome.
For a 60fps or 100fps objective, both measured laptops are credible choices at the tested settings. For anything beyond that, especially a 144fps target, this two-laptop sample is too small to support broad recommendations. The sensible reading is simple: Ready or Not ran very well on both recorded machines at 1080p High, but the 72fps gap between them makes exact-model performance more useful than GPU branding alone.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
