What it asks of a laptop
Monster Hunter World looks relatively forgiving at the measured 1,920 × 1,080 High preset with upscaling off, but the evidence here is limited: Notebookcheck's figures cover only four laptops. That is enough to show how these particular machines performed, not enough to make broad claims about every laptop carrying the same graphics chip.
Across those four systems, the measured result ranges from 105fps to 131fps, with a 121fps median. Every laptop in the sample cleared 60fps and 100fps, while none reached 144fps. In practical terms, these figures suggest that the game was not difficult for these particular RTX 2070- and RTX 2080-equipped laptops at High settings, although it still did not deliver a measured 144fps result on any of them.
The 26fps gap between the fastest and slowest machines is worth noting. The Asus Strix Scar 17 with an RTX 2080 reached 131fps, while the Acer Predator Triton 500, also with an RTX 2080, returned 105fps. Likewise, the two RTX 2070 laptops differed noticeably: the MSI GE66 Raider managed 130fps, against 113fps from the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR XB.
That variation means GPU name alone does not explain the results in this small set of figures. The RTX 2070 group averaged 122fps across two laptops, slightly ahead of the RTX 2080 group's 118fps across two laptops. This should not be read as an RTX 2070 being faster than an RTX 2080 in general. It simply shows that, in these four measured laptops and this specific test, the machines overlap heavily. Laptop-level implementation matters enough here that the two GPU tiers cannot be cleanly separated by these numbers.
What runs it
At 1080p High with upscaling disabled, all four measured laptops run Monster Hunter World comfortably above 60fps:
- Asus Strix Scar 17, RTX 2080: 131fps
- MSI GE66 Raider, RTX 2070: 130fps
- Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR XB, RTX 2070: 113fps
- Acer Predator Triton 500, RTX 2080: 105fps
For a 60fps target, the result is straightforward within this sample: 4 of 4 laptops cleared it. Even the slowest measured system, the Acer Predator Triton 500, was 45fps above that threshold. If your priority is simply a stable-looking high-refresh experience rather than chasing a particular panel refresh limit, these results indicate that all four machines had ample performance at the tested settings.
A 100fps target was also met by every system measured. The Acer Predator Triton 500 was again the lowest result at 105fps, with the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR XB at 113fps. The MSI GE66 Raider and Asus Strix Scar 17 were close together at 130fps and 131fps respectively. So, based on Notebookcheck's numbers, both the measured RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 laptops can exceed 100fps in Monster Hunter World at this preset.
The picture changes at 144fps. None of the four laptops reached 144fps. The closest was the Asus Strix Scar 17 at 131fps, followed by the MSI GE66 Raider at 130fps. That does not mean 144Hz laptop screens are unsuitable for the game; it means these measured results do not support presenting 144fps at 1080p High, without upscaling, as an achieved target on these machines.
The GPU-tier averages reinforce the overlap. The two RTX 2070 laptops averaged 122fps, while the two RTX 2080 laptops averaged 118fps. Both averages are well over 100fps, but neither establishes a reliable 144fps result. With only two laptops per tier, it would be overconfident to turn those averages into a firm buying rule between RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 systems.
The cheapest laptop that handles it
No laptop prices are included in the fact sheet, so it is not possible to identify the cheapest option from the measured systems or quote a GBP price responsibly.
What can be said is that all four named laptops handled the tested 1080p High configuration above 100fps. The lowest measured result came from the Acer Predator Triton 500 with RTX 2080 at 105fps; the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR XB with RTX 2070 reached 113fps; the MSI GE66 Raider with RTX 2070 reached 130fps; and the Asus Strix Scar 17 with RTX 2080 reached 131fps.
Price should therefore be the deciding factor only after checking the exact laptop configuration being sold. These figures show performance from specific models, rather than establishing that every laptop with an RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 will produce the same result.
What this means if you're buying
If your target is 1080p High at 60fps without upscaling, the measured figures are reassuring: every laptop in this four-machine sample cleared that mark by a substantial margin. A 100fps target is also supported by every result, though the margin is much smaller on the 105fps Acer Predator Triton 500 than on the two 130fps-plus machines.
For buyers choosing between the measured GPU tiers, do not assume the RTX 2080 result will automatically be better. In this data set, the RTX 2070 laptops averaged slightly higher frame rates, and the fastest and slowest results both came from RTX 2080 machines. The sensible conclusion is not that one tier beats the other, but that these particular laptop designs delivered overlapping performance in this game.
If 144fps is the goal, treat it as unproven at the tested settings. The best measured figure was 131fps, leaving a 13fps shortfall to 144fps. Since no machine in the sample reached that threshold, buyers specifically seeking to fill a 144Hz display at 1080p High should not rely on these results alone.
Overall, Monster Hunter World appears manageable for the four measured laptops at 1080p High with upscaling off, with 105fps as the lowest recorded result and 131fps as the highest. That is a strong outcome for 60fps and 100fps buyers, but the small sample means the useful takeaway is limited to these named machines and test conditions.
How these numbers were produced
Frame rates here are not measured by us, and we label how each one was arrived at. A figure marked measured comes from a published run on that exact machine. A figure marked representative is derived from the GPU and its power limit (TGP) and cross-referenced against published reviews - a sound estimate of what that configuration delivers, but not a measurement of that specific laptop. Unless stated otherwise, numbers are 1920x1080, High preset, upscaling off. Where a laptop ships in several power configurations we use the wattage of the exact SKU listed, because a 140W RTX 5070 and a 115W one are not the same product.
